Carsten Pieper I'm a big fan of these Icelanders' "Svefns og vöku skil" and "Hvel", two albums of unearthly beauty. Minimal indie folk with a proggy touch here and there and great harmony vocals everywhere. This live recording is even more ethereal than their studio work and the download includes their spontaneous delivery of an old Icelandic hymn at the Wuppertal station (of all places...) which went viral ;-) Favorite track: Ljóð í sand.

Rich Grula A great performance and terrific piece of viral marketing. I'll probably buy their whole collection once I digest this. Sounds like the best of Arvo Part and Sigur Ros at church. Favorite track: Heyr, himna smiður (live at Wuppertal train station).

Solunas My favorite artists will always be those who can deliver a stellar live performance, and boy do these guys deliver. I saw them in Kansas City last July and was blown away.

elvenbourne wow, so sweeping and beautiful. such rich depth and so delicate. very talented mix of voice and instrumental. I love acoustic/folk and these guys do it so well. hymns and rich harmonies. I don't understand a word of it but I find the Icelandic easy to sing along with after a few times reading the lyrics (and translations). favorites are hard to pick but Heyr Himna Smithur and Ljod I Sand are addictive. Favorite track: Ljóð í sand.

Heyr, himna smiður, hvers skáldið biður. Komi mjúk til mín miskunnin þín. Því heit eg á þig, þú hefur skaptan mig. Eg er þrællinn þinn, þú ert drottinn minn. Guð, heit eg á þig, að þú græðir mig. Minnst þú, mildingur, mín, mest þurfum þín. Ryð þú, röðla gramur, ríklyndur og framur, hölds hverri sorg úr hjartaborg. Gæt þú, mildingur, mín, mest þurfum þín, helzt hverja stund á hölda grund. Send þú, meyjar mögur, málsefnin fögur, öll er hjálp af þér, í hjarta mér.

about

This is a recording that we made on tour in Germany in september 2013. The show took place in the magnificent Dreikönigskirche in Dresden.

Five days earlier we shot a spontaneous video in a train station in Wuppertal, where we performed the old Icelandic hymn "Heyr himna smiður." youtu.be/e4dT8FJ2GE0
